The Government of Bangladesh has identified some projects for potential investment with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in different parts of Bangladesh. Output of these projects along with other modes of transports will contribute to development national, regional and eventually, international economy and trade and will contribute to the development of national GDP of the country. Realizing the needs for sub-regional connectivity, ADB has come forward with a Technical Assistance Project under the title “Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Rail Project Preparatory Facilities (DCCRPPF)” with 8 components.
The Project has been developed under the framework of the Regional Cooperation and Integration Project (RCIP) designed to develop Sub-Regional and Trans-Asian Railway (TAR) connectivity as well as improving the communication system between and among the South Asian and other Asian countries with Bangladesh. The overall objectives of RCIP are to (i) promote economic cooperation and (ii) internal efficiency and effectiveness of the transport sector, (iii) establish regional connectivity; (iv) expansion of trade and commerce within the country and at regional and international levels, and (v) contribute to the national GDP of the country.
