BANBEIS provides educational information and statistics for planning, management and decision making process in the education sector. BANBEIS has now focusing on qualitative survey and socio-economic research in addition to regular quantitative survey activities. Government allocates budget for research in each fiscal year. Under this budget, current study will be conducted to identify the performance of School Management Committee (SMC) in Secondary Schools in Bangladesh. SAMAHAR has been awarded the study on “Management of Secondary Schools in Bangladesh”. The School Management Committee (SMC) plays a pivotal role in school governance to enhance the quality of education offered. The purpose of school management committee is to facilitate effective teaching and learning and performing as overall monitor of the schools. SMC is a bridge between the school and the local community. SMC also plays vital role in the school as both leaders and decision makers. Improving the performance or increasing the effectiveness of SMC is inevitable for strengthening school governance.
The main objective of this study is to assess the performance of the school management committees (SMCs) across different administrative divisions both in the rural and urban areas of the country. Specific Objectives are to assess performance of the SMCs with limitations; strength and weakness of the committees on discharging their responsibilities; and role of SMCs in the selection and or election process of the school management committees
